    Program Description

This program includes a practical hands-on, comprehensive set of courses concentrating on the terminology, regulations, procedures and documentation for importing and exporting. The classes are taught by accomplished and respected practitioners with years of experience in the subject matter that they teach. This certification is designed to build a complete and comprehensive set of skills for a particular area of international trade.

International Trade is different from any other industry. It has its own unique procedures, processes and terminology. This field is sufficiently distinct that it requires a certification process to assure employers of the proficiency of the professionals operating within their international trade departments.

    Career Opportunities

This certification is designed to give the student a firm foundation for a career path in International Trade. Among the employers that require enhanced skills in importing and exporting are government agencies, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors and financial institutions. The goal is to increase your earning potential, enable you to take on new responsibilities, work smarter, solve critical business problems and possibly increase the global market share for your employer or yourself.

The Unz International Trade Certification is a professional distinction of achievement for individuals serving the International Trade community. There are three levels of certification identified by the certification marks shown below in bold print, certification begins with the entry level specialist, then the practitioner, and director level, with each certification involving a distinct program of study and examination at the end of each course.

    • Unz Certified Specialist™ is designed for the entry level person to enhance and update their knowledge. These students are looking to distinguish themselves in the employer’s logistics and/or compliance area in the international operations. This certification will allow students to develop the core competencies that are required to advance within the export and/or import operational area of their company. (Minimum CEUs Required: 12)

    • Unz Certified Practitioner™ is designed for the person who deserves to advance from the work of a specialist to the practitioner level. The purpose of this course of study is to enable the individual to understand all facets of the international trade transaction from beginning to end. This person might be managing others in the export or import department and interacting with others outside the department such as sales, marketing, contract administration, accounting, etc. If this person is in corporate management, he or she may be interacting with a regional office and passing on information and direction affecting an international transaction or shipment. Persons at this level would be managing resources, establishing controls and supervising functions such as logistics, sourcing, mandatory registration (DOT, ITAR), issuance of documentation, etc. This certificate allows a company to develop the most effective international trade middle management employee.
      (Minimum CEUs required: 21)

    • Unz Certified Director™ is for a select group of persons within a medium or large organization. These are professionals who have been supervisors or first line managers, and have proven themselves at the specialist and practitioner level.  They now aspire to a significantly higher degree of mastering their knowledge of all aspects of international trade. These individuals are often involved in currency and financial issues, risk management, the political environment and most importantly assuming some responsibility for the profit line in international sales and sourcing. (Minimum CEUs required: 30)

    Course Requirements

The Unz certification program and course selection provide the greatest flexibility in order to permit the most relevant, practical courses that will benefit both your career and your company. The number of CEUs increases with the level of certification.

    Re-Certification

Continuing education is critically important if industry professionals are to remain current on the rapidly changing procedures, policy and terminology of International Trade. To maintain your certification, you must earn continuing education units (CEUs) by attending Unz international trade seminars and/or workshops.

If the continuing education requirement is not satisfied, individuals are required to pass the appropriate certification examinations in order to reacquire certification.

Recertification is required after three (3) years of the initial certification. Unz Certified Specialist level requires 6 CEUs, Unz Certified Practitioner level requires 9 CEUs and Unz Certified Director level requires 12 CEUs.
