Shipper's Letter of Instructions

PURPOSE AND USE

Form Profile:

The Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI) is not a regulatory agency form . Its purpose is to convey specific routing instructions from exporter to an agent who is usually an international freight forwarder. The SLI contains the Shipper Export Declaration (SED) in the form set. The exporter known as the U.S. Principal Party in Interest (USPPI) therefore completes the initial data for the SED via the SLI. Subsequent required information is added by the designated freight forwarder. This set makes the primary documentation package needed by the forwarder to secure an export clearance via the Automated Export System (AES).

The six part snap set contains the cover sheet, a blue receipt copy for the exporter and four SED’s. The SED’s remain together after initial preparation by the USPPI to form a convenient snap set for the forwarder to complete the required routing details.

  • Exporter neglects to sign SED.
  • Exporter neglects to inform Forwarder of special instructions.
