Significant Changes and Amendments to the 49th Edition (Effective January 1, 2008)

The key addition to the 49th edition is a new Appendix I - Impending Changes. This appendix will set out the changes* that will take effect from 1 January 2009 with the publication of the next edition of the ICAO Technical Instructions. These changes include:

• Revisions to the list of dangerous goods based on the new UN numbers assigned by the UN Subcommittee of Experts. Included in these are new UN numbers for fuel cell cartridges containing substances in Division 2.1, Division 4.3 and in Class 8. Amendment to the current entries for lithium batteries (UN 3090 & UN 3091) to include "metal" in the PSN and assignment of new UN numbers (UN 3480 & UN 3481) for lithium ion batteries;
• Significant amendments and additions to the special provisions;
• New and revised packing instructions;
• New provisions for DG in excepted quantity based on the UN adoption of these provisions;
• Changes agreed specifically for air transport by the ICAO DGP.

NB* - These changes are as known at the time of the DGR going to print.  In addition the DGR will reflect the latest State and operator variations.
