Virtually every country in the world considers the origin of imported goods when determining what duty will be assessed on the goods or, in some cases, whether the goods may be legally imported at all. PURPOSE AND USE

Certificates of Origin are prepared by the exporter or freight forwarder, notarized and attested by a local Chamber of Commerce. The General certificate is acceptable for most countries unless a specific form is otherwise required. These special forms are also available from Unz & Co. and are noted below. CBP434 NAFTA Certificate of Origin (CBP Form)

PURPOSE AND USE

Form Profile:

Form 434 is required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for imports from Mexico or Canada and for exports from the U.S. to Mexico or Canada for which the importer of record is seeking preferential tariff treatment under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).  Article 502 of NAFTA provides that only importers who present a valid Certificate of Origin may claim preferential tariff rates.

Certificate of Origin for South Africa

PURPOSE AND USE

The Declaration of Origin is the certificate of origin required for all commercial shipments to the Republic of South Africa. The form requires all of the basic information related to the merchandise being shipped to include a sworn statement by the shipper related to the country of origin.

PURPOSE AND USE

Form Profile:

Form C-16 Amended is required for shipments to Nigeria. The Commercial Invoice information must be in the official format, and must be signed by the manufacturer, supplier, or exporter. No more than six harmonized tariff items may be listed on one invoice. Both the F.O.B. and C and F values must be entered for each invoice. On the reverse side of this form are the Certificate of Value and the Certificate of Origin, which must be completed.
